Update: 8/28/09

Well, I made some changes to my recording set-up, which meant that other people can now come in and play along with me. Did some basic tracks with keyboards and live drums in an attempt to get a more organic sound. Hopefully I didn't mess anything up recording wise, as it's my first time using real (acoustic) drums. I'm back at Georgetown now, so there won't be any finished recordings for a while...

This summer I did have the pleasure of working with Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step fame to discuss songwriting and how to improve my writing skills. Really cool stuff. I did a few revisions of some old songs of mine and have ideas for some new ones bouncing around.

The plan as of now is to continue doing session work and live work. I'd love to throw in a concert or two of my own down here, but we'll see. I definitely would like to do something in the spring to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of my first major public gig? Stay tuned...

Everything About You But You: Pt 2

I threw out the bass part since it was messing everything else up. I recorded the lead vocals and about half of the harmony vox and it's really starting to come together now. Some of the electric guitar fills might have to be fixed too, and I'll probably make the tempo a little faster to give it some extra pep, but overall it's in much better shape than the initial version.

Everything About You But You

Finished the guitar parts for the song. There sure are a lot of them. The bass is a little sloppy, but it would have to be redone once the drums are added anyway. I still need to add piano and the vocals before I bother with a rough mix, but I think it's in pretty good shape for the first day. Now I'm off to a gig to showcase the new songs!

Recording Sessions: Night 1 cont'd

This is the benefit of having a home studio - I can experiment without having to watch the clock. As it turns out, though none of my tracks ended up being usable tonight, I happened on a new rhythm for the acoustic guitars that makes much more sense. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to lay a few tracks down.

Recording Sessions: Night 1

Tonight I begin recording sessions for the follow-up to my 2008 debut "Mercury Rising Alone." The new album (title TBA) will feature new songs and reworkings of my older material (the concert favorites). The goal is to have a more even-sounding album than the last, and will feature many guitars in an attempt to justify some recent eBay purchases!

Up first: a re-recording of "Everything About You But You," a 12-string guitar-based ditty about beautiful people that drive you nuts. It reminds me of a song that could have been on an Eagles album. My goal for tonight is to bang out the guitar parts and a rough vocal.
